Safety Coordinator

Benesch has a career opportunity for a Safety Coordinator. This position reports directly to the Safety Director and is responsible to provide administrative support in planning, organizing, and administering the Company’s safety and risk management programs. The position provides support to staff, supervisors, and managers with resources to promote safe work practices and an awareness of a culture of safety.

The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and can manage multiple projects simultaneously. Collaboration with other safety, risk, and field staff is a large part of this role. It’s a fast-paced, deadline-driven job that will have you working on something different every day.

Location: This position will have a hybrid work schedule and has the option of working from multiple offices within the Benesch organization.

The Impact You Will Have

  • Attend Safety Committee meetings and provide support in resulting initiatives
  • Assist with the development of and conducting Employee safety training
  • Assist in the administration of FRA Drug & Alcohol Testing Program
  • Assist employees with obtaining railroad safety certifications and track expiration and renewal needs
  • Maintain compliance with prequalification requirements of various subcontractor management platforms (ISNetworld, Avetta, independent clients)
  • Monitor driver safety through the use of fleet telematics and continuous motor vehicle record checks. Work with employees to resolve identified driving behaviors through driver training.
  • Facilitate First Aid/AED Training for field staff by coordinating with business units and program providers and setting up new offices with applicable safety resources according to company standards
  • Assist employees and business units with company PPE storefront and expense reimbursement
  • Administer Safety Footwear Program
  • Assist field staff, supervisors, and management to promote safe work practices and a culture of safety awareness
  • Assist field staff and managers with the use of the Safety Management System
  • Coordinate with administrative staff to ensure monthly inspections are completed for First Aid Kits & AEDs
  • Assist Safety Director with the maintenance of and updates to guidelines, programs, safety manual, etc.
  • Participate in the development of Project Site Safety Plans and Job Hazard Assessments

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s degree, specializations in safety, EHS, Occupation Health or related field preferred but not required
  • 5+ years of related experience preferred
  • Experience as a Designated Employer Representative for mandated drug and alcohol programs is beneficial, but not required
  • Intermediate to Advanced knowledge of Microsoft suite products
  • Attention to detail and ability to prioritize time management effectively
  • Strong oral and written communication and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work effectively with teams
  • Ability to work independently on multiple concurrent tasks/projects
