Topic The Philosophy of EHS Professional Ethics

This 3-hour virtual workshop will discuss how ethics can be identified as the standards of conduct and moral values governing actions and decisions in the work environment. The EHS professional’s role has many constituencies to which they must answer. During this workshop, the group will identify ethical dilemmas and discuss potential options and actions. As a faithful agent to the employer, EHS professional practice should be true to the employee and strive to promote a safe working environment. However, they also must be true to self—even if that truthfulness may threaten corporate profits in the short run. In the long run, it is only through truth and the promotion of ethical practices can one minimize harm and maximize benefits to all stakeholders. Participants in this interactive workshop will actively generate and debate real world ethical dilemmas and explore ideas about:

  1. What is “professional ethics”?
  2. Ethical theories and professional conduct.
  3. How to approach ethical dilemmas for the best outcome.

Speaker Dr. Daniel Snyder
