The Director of Safety is responsible for leading the enterprise-wide safety and risk management strategy across all company locations. This executive-level position provides strategic oversight of occupational safety, regulatory compliance, fleet safety, claims management, and risk mitigation initiatives to protect employees, patients, assets, and the organization.
This role establishes standardized safety practices, reduces liability exposure, ensures regulatory compliance, and drives a culture of accountability and continuous improvement across all divisions.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Enterprise Safety & Risk Strategy
- Develop and execute a comprehensive corporate safety and risk management program across all locations
- Establish and standardize company-wide safety policies, procedures, and compliance protocols
- Implement measurable initiatives to reduce workplace injuries, fleet accidents, and liability exposure
- Design and monitor enterprise safety KPIs and reporting dashboards
Regulatory Compliance & Governance
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, state EMS regulations, HIPAA, DOT requirements, and applicable healthcare and transportation standards
- Oversee regulatory audits, inspections, environmental compliance, and corrective action planning
- Maintain enterprise OSHA reporting and safety documentation systems
Fleet & Operational Risk Management
- Oversee driver qualification standards and fleet safety programs across all locations
- Analyze accident trends and implement preventive safety initiatives
- Partner with Operations leadership to reduce preventable vehicle incidents and operational risk
Claims & Insurance Management
- Direct workers’ compensation, auto liability, general liability, and professional liability claims oversight
- Serve as primary liaison with insurance carriers and legal counsel
- Implement strategies to reduce claims frequency, severity, and insurance premiums
Incident Investigation & Risk Mitigation
- Standardize incident reporting and investigation processes
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action planning across divisions
- Provide executive-level reporting on incident trends and risk exposure
Training & Safety Culture
- Develop corporate safety training standards for field and administrative staff
- Partner with HR, Clinical, and Operations leadership to align safety with workforce standards
- Promote a culture of accountability and safety ownership at every level of the organization
Leadership & Cross-Functional Alignment - Collaborate with regional COOs and department leaders to ensure consistent implementation of safety
standards - Travel to field locations to assess compliance and coach leadership teams
- Provide regular executive reporting to senior leadership and Board members as requested
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Risk Management, Healthcare Administration, Business, or
related field - 7+ years of progressive safety and risk management experience
- Multi-location or enterprise oversight experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of OSHA, EMS regulatory standards, DOT compliance, and healthcare risk frameworks
- Experience managing workers’ compensation and liability claims
- CSP, ARM, or related certification preferred
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
- Corporate leadership role with travel required
- Hybrid or on-site presence as determined by executive leadership
- Must be available to respond to significant safety incidents as needed
