Safe + Sound Week

ASSP and the Heart of America Chapter are supporting Safe + Sound Week running August 15-21. 

This annual event recognizes the successes of workplace health and safety programs, and businesses across the nation are encouraged to participate.  If you’re not familiar with this campaign, please check out the website and consider participating.

Please consider registering your company and participating.  (Missouri and Kansas are trailing the other Chapters in our Region.)

As a way to promote Safe + Sound Week, the HOA Chapter is having a drawing for members who submit an answer to, “Why did you become a safety professional?” 

Please submit responses to president@kc.assp.org with the subject “S+S submission”.

The winner will be notified at the conclusion of S+S Week and awarded a $50 Amazon gift card, and their submission will be highlighted in our September newsletter.

Laurel Harris Named Heart of America Chapter’s Safety Professional of the Year

Laurel Harris, ASP, CSP, ARM, PCQI, a Risk Engineer with Chubb, the world’s largest publicly traded property and casualty insurance company and 18-year member of the American Society of Safety Professionals, is the Heart of America Chapter’s 2021 Safety Professional of the Year.

Laurel has nearly 32 years of experience as a safety professional, spending the last two decades as a Risk Engineer with Chubb. She has been instrumental in her roles as a Senior Risk Engineer and Products Liability Specialist.
